2 October 2013: The Pixel Project, the award-nominated volunteer-led virtual non-profit social enterprise working to end Violence Against Women (VAW) worldwide, the Positive Music Association (PMA) and YouTube’s #1 R&B group, AHMIR, are pleased to announce the first ever “Paint It Purple” online charity concert which will take place on 15 October 2013 in honour of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and World Singing Days.

The ‘Paint It Purple’ online charity concert was created when the PMA invited The Pixel Project to be part of their annual World Singing Days festivities. As World Singing Days will run from 18 – 20 October 2013, which is also part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Pixel Project has incorporated World Singing Days into their annual ‘Paint It Purple’ campaign’s programme of activities raising awareness about domestic violence and VAW. This special live online concert will take place at 8pm EST, Tuesday 15th October 2013 on StageIt.com where fans can also chat with AHMIR live and there will also be a prize giveaway of Monster DNA headphones. The concert link is: http://is.gd/PaintItPurpleConcert.

Regina Yau, Founder and President of The Pixel Project said: “Music is a potent force for spreading ideas for change and messages of hope. We are honoured that our YouTube Music Ambassador, AHMIR, have not only kindly agreed to perform the concert but will also be generously donating 50% of the concert proceeds to help keep our campaigns and programmes running. We hope that the concert will not only entertain our supporters, AHMIR’s fans and music lovers alike but will also inspire them to think about how they could help stop VAW.”

AHMIR will be performing, a cappella, a wide-ranging set of songs in their signature four-part vocal harmonies. The playlist includes classics such as ‘In The Still Of The Night’ and ‘Yesterday’, Ed Sheeran’s hit song ‘The A-Team’, and an original song called ‘The Wedding Song’. AHMIR said: “We have so much fun doing these online concerts and it’s the perfect way to share our talents, interact with fans and most importantly raise awareness about VAW and provide financial support to The Pixel Project.”

Scott Johnson, the Founder of the PMA, said: “Imagine people all over the world singing on the same day to celebrate our common humanity. Music is an international language which connects people on a human and emotional level. This year’s theme is “Empowering Women” and we are delighted that The Pixel Project and AHMIR are participating in this global event to help raise awareness about VAW and domestic Violence while connecting our global community in the spirit of respect, friendship and joy. AHMIR’s performance on 15 October will set the stage for the official World Singing Days on 18 – 20 October. For more information on how you can participate, visit www.WorldSingingDay.org.”

An Invitation To Musicians: 10 Covers of ‘The Rose’ and Joining the “Music For Pixels” YouTube Cover Carnival

When AHMIR, the Number 1 R&B group on YouTube, offered to cover ‘The Rose’ for our Music For Pixels campaign, we were delighted because it is a classic song that beautifully articulates the themes of love, hope, courage and the strength to survive. These are themes that are central to many a survivor’s journey to rebuilding and thriving after the violence.

The closing verse in particular says what speaks to many a survivor’s heart and experience:

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed
That with the sun’s love, in the spring
Becomes the rose

Amanda McBroom wrote ‘The Rose’ in 1977 as her answer to the question: “What do you think love is?”. She said:
